TRF Trustee to Speak at Foundation Dinner

Written by Jerry Venters

Lynn A. Hammond, a member of the Rotary Club of Loveland, Colorado, and a Rotary Foundation Trustee since 2009, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s District 6040 Rotary Foundation dinner on November 3 at the KCI Expo Convention Center.

The Foundation Dinner is the largest single annual function for District 6040, with approximately 350 people attending.  It’s a time for special recognitions and, more importantly, an occasion to raise money for The Rotary Foundation.  Usually, more than $30,000 is raised for the Annual Programs Fund, 50% of which will be returned to District 6040 in three years for support of humanitarian and educational programs of the District’s choosing.

Plaza Rotarian Larry Lunsford started the Foundation Dinner when he was District 6040 Governor in 2000-01 as a way of marking Rotary Foundation Month (November) and as a means of providing additional monetary support and recognition for the Foundation’s programs around the world.  This year, a record number of Plaza Rotarians and partners – 22 – have registered for the event.

Hammond is a past president of the Larimer County (CO.) Bar Association and has served on the Colorado Bar Association’s Board of Governors.  A Rotarian since 1960, he has served as a Rotary International Director, chair of the Board’s Executive Committee, as an International Assembly training leader, and in various other capacities.  He and his wife, Norma, are Major Donors and Foundation Benefactors.

Special thanks go to Beth Bahner, Bob Merrigan, and Gary Morgan, who are donating items for the silent auction that begins at 5 p.m.  The dinner and program will begin at 6 p.m.  You can still register for the dinner at www.rotary6040.org, under “District Events,” or by contacting Cassy Venters.
