Plaza Rotary Club Receives Awards at Foundation Dinner

The Plaza Rotary Club received two important recognitions at the 13th annual District 6040 Foundation Dinner on Nov. 3 at the KCI Expo Center.

The Plaza Club was one of only 18 clubs in the District to be designated as a Star Club for 2011-12.  The Star Club designation is given to all clubs that contribute an average of $100 or more per meImagember to the Annual Programs Fund of The Rotary Foundation.  The Plaza Club has received the designation every year since the recognition was begun six years ago.

Also, the Plaza Club was recognized as the No. 3 club in the district for per capita giving to the Foundation in 2011-12, with contributions of $194 per member.   The Lee’s Summit Sunrise Club had the highest per capita giving at $383, followed by the Richmond Club at $200.  Immediate Past President Beth Bahner accepted both awards from Mark Simcosky, District Annual Giving Chair.

The Lee’s Summit Sunrise Club, home of last year’s District Governor, Dan Hall, received the Ray Klinginsmith Trophy, a travelling trophy that is presented to the club with the highest per capita contributions to the Foundation and that also earns the Presidential Citation.  The Plaza Club received the Klinginsmith Cup in its inaugural year in 2009-10.

The Plaza Club was one of just seven District 6040 clubs to be designated a Peace Club for contributing an extra $2,000 to The Rotary Foundation and in support of the Foundation Dinner.  Overall, the Foundation Dinner, which was attended by 250 Rotarians and their partners and friends, raised $31,667.19 for the Foundation. "We need to pat ourselves on the back and be extremely proud of our efforts," District Governor Kenny Harris said. "Because of this event, we sent lifesaving medicines to those who are ill, provided clean water to a village so their children won’t get sick, given opportunities through a micro-credit program, and most importantly – we have given HOPE to those who feel there is none."
