Plaza Rotary Receives Klinginsmith Cup, Named a Star Club for 2012-13

The Plaza Rotary Club received the District 6040 Klinginsmith Cup and was recognized as a Star Club for the 2012-13 Rotary Year at last week's District Conference at the Embassy Suites Airport Hotel in Kansas City.  The Klinginsmith Cup is a traveling trophy named in honor of Ray Klinginsmith, a Kirksville Rotarian who served as the President of Rotary International in 2010-11, and is awarded to the Rotary Club in the District that had the highest per capita contribution to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation in the preceding year, plus earning the Presidential Citation.  The per capita contribution for the Plaza Club was $278.79.  The other clubs in the top three in Foundation giving were Eastern Independence ($218.47) and Richmond ($209.88). In 2012-13, Plaza Rotarians contributed $21,745 to the Annual Fund and an overall total of $26,057 to the Foundation, which would include giving to PolioPlus and the Endowment Fund (formerly the Permanent Fund).

This is the second time in the four years since the origination of the Klinginsmith Cup that the Plaza Club has won the award. The Plaza Club won the inaugural award in 2009-10 with per capita giving of $411.26.  The Cup was awarded to Kirksville Thousand Hills in 2010-11 and to Lee's Summit Sunrise in 2011-12.  President Debra Anderson received the Cup from District Foundation Chair John Gill (pictured).  Debra was pinch-hitting for Elizabeth Thomas, our club president in 2012-13, who was at home (anxiously!) awaiting the birth of her and Drue's first child.

The Plaza Club was one of 20 clubs to receive Star Club recognition at the District Conference.  Star Clubs are clubs that contributed an average of $100 or more per member to the Annual Fund of the Foundation.  This is the 6th consecutive year for the club to receive Star Club recognition. Finally, the Plaza Club was one of 21 clubs (plus the Rotaract Club at Park University) to be recognized for earning the Presidential Citation in 2012-13.  Numerous Plazans were active in leadership roles and/or attended the District Conference, and nearly 20 members and spouses attended the Foundation Dinner on Saturday night.  View the picture gallery on the club's Website, www.kcplazarotary.org, in "Photo Albums" on the left side of the Home page.  Congratulations, Plaza Rotarians, for these accomplishments and, more importantly, for the good that your contributions will do in the world!
