Centurions Get Pars v. Polio Off to Fast Start!

With 22 $100 contributions in July and August, the Plaza Club’s Centurions have put real momentum in the District’s Pars v. Polio fundraiser to help eradicate polio worldwide.  At this early stage, the Arnold Palmer team (Jerry Venters, captain) is the leader with $700, followed by the Tom Watson team (Tommy Avenia) with $600, the Jack Nicklaus team (Terry Putney) with $500, and the Lee Trevino team (Erik Dickinson) with $400.

Clubs throughout the District are revving up for the Golf Marathon. Last year, 19 clubs participated and raised $42,530 for polio eradication, including more than $15,000 contributed by the Plaza club.  Erik and Jerry will be our Plaza golfers this year.  They hope to play as many as 100 holes of golf each on either Sept. 14 or 22.

Plazans are encouraged to send solicitations to non-Rotarian friends, neighbors, and professional colleagues and ask for their help in eradicating polio.  Checks should be made to “The Rotary Foundation.” If you’d like a template email to use in making solicitations, contact your team captain or write Jerry at jvrotary6040@yahoo.com. Let’s End Polio Now!!

Chiefs Watch Party: Host Wanted and Chili Challenge
Frances Reddis is doing a great job planning our annual KC Chiefs Watch Party, but she needs someone to host. The only requirements are that you 1) have a home, and 2) have a TV. Frances and Denise Holt will be hands-on helpers.

It’d be great if the host lives in or near the Plaza and Brookside neighborhoods – somewhere closer into the city so most people will not have to drive too far to watch the Chiefs take on the Broncos on Nov. 15, 3:15 p.m.

To sweeten the deal – or perhaps to spice it up – Frances is asking for all chili cooks to bring a crockpot of their favorite chili for a contest. Those in attendance at the party will vote on their favorite chili. The winner takes home a special prize! And, of course, there will be hot dogs and other yummy foods and drinks. So, the challenge is on to those of you who believe you have the best chili!
