Week’s Speaker, Kim Wells
“Eat Well, Live Well”
 
Kim Wells graduated from KU Medical Center in 1994 with her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy.  She also holds a degree in Exercise Science from KU and is a nationally certified Athletic Trainer.
 
Kim speaks to a variety of organizations educating on fitness and nutrition.  She is passionate about empowering others to understand that simple choices in nutrition and fitness can make a profound difference in their health, athletic performance and quality of life.  She is married to Brad and they have 2 active, healthy kids, Kristin, 17 and Joshua, 15.  
 
Her talk, "Eat Well, Live Well," will focus on the importance of nutrition and the role it plays in our health, touching on the core four principles, importance of whole foods, plus simple tools and practical ideas that we all can implement.

Club Nears $8,000 in Golf Marathon
 
The Plaza Club has raised and contributed almost $8,000 in the Pars v. Polio fundraiser to raise funds for polio eradication. Centurions have contributed more than $3,000.  Plazans Erik Dickinson and Jerry Venters played 100 holes of golf last week at Cardinal Hill Golf Course in Liberty and raised almost $5,000 in pledges and contributions!! Way to go Erik and Jerry!!!
 
Final figures will be compiled in the next few days. Contributions are still being accepted and may be made online at www.rotary.org to PolioPlus or by becoming a Centurion ($100).
 
Plazans Active at Zones Institute
 
Several Plazans were active in significant roles at the Zones 30-31 Institute last week in Baton Rouge.
 
Elizabeth Usovicz was the program chair for the annual Institute, which brings together more than 300 Rotary leaders from 26 districts in the Midwest and South.
The immediate Past Rotary International Director, Larry Lunsford, spoke at the opening session.
 
Cassy Venters moderated a breakout session on the use of social media by Rotarians and Rotary clubs, and Michele Watley spoke at a breakout session on attracting young professionals to Rotary. Jerry Venters was a member of the RI Director Nominating Committee, which met after the Institute to nominate a director for the zones for Rotary years 2017-18 and 2018-19.
 
 
Cassy accepted a certificate for District 6040 as the leading District in Zone 31 for giving to PolioPlus last year. The District contributed $187,410 to the polio eradication effort, more than $100,000 ahead of the next closest district.
