Your head start on Valentine’s Day
Our speaker for this year’s Friends and Family Breakfast is Lexie Soukup, a Product Manager with Hallmark.  She’s going to talk to us about the history of Valentine’s Day cards, so dust off those memories of when you figured out how exactly you were going to sign each card to your fourth-grade classmates.

In addition to spreading good cheer at Hallmark, Lexie volunteers at her daughter’s school, the Junior League and her church.  She and her husband Ryan have three children, ages 7, 4 and 1.

Bid Early! Bid Often!

Not only do we have a great speaker lined up for Friday, but you can also walk out with some great Valentine’s Day presents.

Golf locally, wow ‘em globally

The amazing work of Jerry Venters and Roger Samuel on September’s “Pars vs. Polio” golf marathon continues to reverberate through the world of Rotary.  Jerry submitted a blog post about the event to RI and it was published last week, along with a picture of our intrepid golfers.

No sooner had those electrons hit the blogosphere, then RI turned around and highlighted the story in their weekly newsletter.

Not bad for a single (long) day on the links.  Congratulations again to Jerry and Roger for organizing this incredibly successful event.

Speaker:  Dean Johnson, Crossroads Academy: "Educating Students in Downtown Kansas City.”    Dean feels that reurbanization of the downtown will only go so far without great schools. Crossroads Academy of Kansas City opened its doors three years ago in a building behind the Lyric Theatre.  With its 8-4 school day, the academy prepares students to excel in high school by providing vigorous K-8 education.   It extends its facilities by using downtown resources, the Barney Allis Plaza as a playground, KC Central Library and its library, and the Quality Hill Playhouse and the Folly Theatre as auditoriums.  The school is very proud that its seventh grade science project testing the impact of micro gravity on sunflower seeds was included with those travelling to the space station.  Follow this link to learn more.
