ImageRotaract KC Launch Party Hits a Home Run!

The Rotaract KC Launch Party, to organize a Rotaract club in the downtown-Plaza area, hit a home run – more like a grand slam homer -- on September 12 at the Boulevard Brewery tasting room on Southwest Boulevard.

More than 50 persons signed up for the organizational meeting and 48 were in attendance to learn a little bit about Rotary, talk about service projects, and sample some of Boulevard Brewery’s best brews.  Another 4 persons were on a waiting list. Rotaract is for young professionals between 21 and 30 with an interest in getting involved in service activities in the community and in meeting and socializing with other young people.

“The charter committee truly came together in the past couple of weeks to put on a phenomenal, successful event,” said Sarah Snyder, one of the organizers.  “The attendees’ response was overwhelming and most of them expressed interest in being involved in the future. We even had people who couldn’t attend asking for more info! Our theme of Build. Belong. Branch Out. went over well…We look forward to following up in October and sustaining the momentum of the Rotaract KC Launch.”

Fifteen members are required to obtain a Rotaract charter.  The club will meet next on October 3 at a location to be determined.  Tentative plans are for the club to meet twice monthly, with one meeting being a service project of some kind.

The club is being sponsored by the Kansas City Rotary Club and the Plaza Rotary Club.  The Plaza Club’s Rotaract contacts are Terry Berkbuegler and Karyn Eppler.  Let them know of any young professional who might be interested in getting involved.  It sounds like Rotaract KC is on its way!
