Our Current Project: Urban Rangers Resource CenterImage
By President Debra Anderson

The club has chosen the Urban Rangers Resource Center as our major service project this year.  Urban Rangers would like to transform a room (pictured) in their building on Swope Parkway into a resource center with computers.  It would become a place where Rangers and neighborhood kids could do homework, work with tutorials, do Internet research, and study in a safe, well-equipped environment. The Plaza Rotary Club would provide the labor and the funds for the center, aided by a District Simplified Grant from The Rotary Foundation.  Rangers would help with some of the labor.  The project meets a community assessed need, is sustainable and measurable, and meets the Rotary areas of focus of Basic Education & Literacy and Economic & Community Development.

This is a project where we can truly “Engage Rotary, Change Lives,” and there are many ways for you to help make this a successful Rotary project, including:

  •  Send your favorite quote or inspirational story to Frances Reddis (frances.reddis@usdoj.gov) and Debra Anderson (debanderson@me.com) for inclusion in the binder for the rangers.
  • Donate a dictionary, thesaurus, or book appropriate for high school or middle school youths.
  • Donate or help locate furniture.  We need:

o   6 tables 60”x30” for computers, plus 12 chairs, such as 5 star pneumatic rolling office chairs or sledbase chairs

o   2 bookcases

o   A seating arrangement – loveseat and chair or beanbags, side table

o   Carpet – 40 sq. yards (carpet squares preferred)

o   1 – 14,000 btu/h window air conditioner

  • Sign up to work.   Tentative work dates:
