ImageUrban Rangers Project Near the Finish; Open House to be Held Soon

Other than a few touches and tweaks, and the installation of new window air conditioners, the Computer Resource Center at the Urban Ranger Corps offices is complete! Numerous Plaza Rotarians and several of the Urban Rangers youth have worked on several Saturdays to convert an outdated room at the URC offices at 5908 Swope Parkway into a Computer Resource Center and study area. Funds for the approximately $6,500 project came from the Club's Reverse Raffle fundraiser on April 12 and from a $2,000 District Simplified Grant provided by The Rotary Foundation through District 6040.

An open house will be held soon to celebrate the completion of the project and offer Plaza Rotarians and others a chance to see the final product.

Rotarians and Rangers worked together on Demolition Day to remove carpeting, wall base and electrical wire mold.  Will Hodgkinson followed up with wall repairs.  Bo Steed worked with an electrician to add circuits for the computers and then followed up with more wall repairs.  On April 19 ten Rotarians -- Debra Anderson, Jacquelyn Blake, Don Pellow, Cassy and Jerry Venters, Frank Bales, Allen Jenks, Dave Bahner, Erik Dickinson and Kile Morrison -- painted the computer room and two adjoining bathrooms (two coats!).

Jacquelyn got a contractor friend to donate all of the paint and supplies for the project. She also worked with The Surplus Exchange, the firm that is donating refurbished computers for the project and has a contractor who will remodel a window so that we can add air conditioning to the room.  Cassy found excellent used carpet tile at ReStore and Randy Steinman delivered it to URC.  Denise Holt has been securing other materials needed and Debra ordered the computer monitors, which Erik picked up.

Saturday, April 26, four Rotarians and six Rangers worked to lay carpet tile and install new wall base in the computer room and adjoining hallway. Jrry Venters installed vinyl tile in the two bathrooms.  Last Saturday, the furniture was delivered and set up, and The Surplus Exchange was delivering and setting up the computers and monitors this week.
