GSE Dominican Republic
October 26-31, 2019
In keeping with Rotary Connects the World, the Plaza club will be hosting GSE (Group Study Exchange) visitors from the Dominican Republic Oct 26-31, 2019 (5 nights). Visitors will stay with local Rotarians to learn about our culture, go on vocational visits, see some of our service work, but mostly to build lasting friendships. On such short notice, Host families have to be determined quickly, and we need TWO more host families. Right now, all we know is that 3 men and 2 women are coming to visit from the Dominican Republic-- we don't know what they do, how old they are, or anything yet. What an adventure!
We are also in need of drivers, of course. It's a lot of fun to get to know people from around the world, so give it a try! If you'd be interested in shuttling a GSE guest to a vocational appointment, or simply showing them what you do for a living, or joining us on a field trip, email Shannan Berkbuegler to indicate your interest and availability.
Being a Host means you'll be.....
caring for the guest's needs and comfort while they are in your care. When we've stayed with Rotarians as we travel, we are treated to meals and lodging with the hosts having no expectation that we, the guests, will pay for anything. We try anyway, and sometimes succeed, but just remember that this is not something that the club reimburses a club member for. When we Host GSE team members, we buy their dinner at our favorite restaurants, fix them the American and family specialty breakfasts, drive them wherever they want to shop (TJ Maxx, several times!),  and so on. We consider it an honor to have visitors from around the globe stay with us, and we want them to feel that way, too.
Here are some excellent guides for being a great host in any situation.
