WWI Memorial Park Hosting Live Broadcast of Grand Opening

WWI Memorial Park Hosting Live Broadcast of Grand Opening – April 16

Many of you know that I have the honor of serving on a national commission established to commemorate the end of World War I at its 100th anniversary.  The commission established many educational and commemorative programs over a multi-year period.

The final project is the completion of a national memorial in Washington DC honoring the sacrifices of those who served.   The memorial consists of an urban park and monumental sculpture of 37 figures telling a story of “A Soldier’s Journey.”  The sculpture is still under construction, but the park is completed.

The grand opening is at 9:00 am CT, Friday, April 16.   I’m unable to attend in person but will be watching the broadcast, and I expect it will be an exciting and moving event.  I invite you to also watch.  You can learn more and register at   first colors registration - World War I Centennial (

Rotary Spring Walk-About
It's about the Rotary Spring Walk-about.
All Club members and families are invited.  And campers are welcomed as well.
May 1st, 2021
  • A Saturday in Spring to spend some time with nature and 140 acres of woods and prairies.
  • Arrive at 9:00 a.m. or after and spend the day.  I'm sure there will be a fire, and roasting hot dogs for lunch will be easy.
  • There are many miles of trails to walk.  Hunt morels ( I'm tending toward a 60/40 split on the harvest) and look for wildlife. Bring your cameras.  Even swim if so inclined, on May first?
  • The Farm house is 75 minutes from the Plaza, north up I-35.  15230 Titan Ave.  Winston MO   Google does not always get you right at the house, but close.  The 15230 sign is easy to see and with all the pine trees at the gravel driveway,  you can hardly see the house on the south side of Titan.
  • All I am offering is nature and a fire.  The house has running water.  Bring anything you so desire.  Fireworks are good.  Trail bikes will work.  Fish are in the two ponds for any anglers.   Kites frolic the constant wind.
  • Please RSVP and I'll email you a map of the 1/2 mile square plot with trails marked.  Free to Rotarians with pins by the way.
  • If you want to camp on Friday or Saturday night you MUST get with me.
  • Email responses will be best for me to send the map.  Text if you want.   816-365-9649
