This Week (Jan. 9): Dwight Chapin, Former White House Aide: "The Richard Nixon Era: Lessons Learned"

Dwight Chapin, a native of Wichita, served as a Deputy Assistant to President Richard M. Nixon and was caught up in the Watergate scandal in 1972-73. He first began work for Nixon as a field man in 1962, when Nixon ran for Governor of California, and while Chapin was still a student at the University of Southern California. He was Nixon's personal aide in the 1968 presidential campaign and then went to work in the White House as Nixon's appointments secretary, and was responsible for doing the advance work for Nixon's trip to China in 1972. In 1973, he was named as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the year by the Jaycees, but in 1974-75 he was indicted, convicted, and sentenced to nine months in prison for his role in the Watergate scandal.  Since 1976, he has worked in advertising and public relations and as a business consultant and has maintained a keen interest in politics.
