If you've found yourself traveling down Troost near 31st Street in the past 3 months, you've most likely driven underneath a beautiful new bridge. Last year, Operation Breakthrough launched an expansion project, which includes a bridge across Troost. The Bridge to a Brighter Future project is expanding Operation Breakthrough's services from 420 children to over 700 children and their families. ......

......On September 18, 2018, Sister Berta and Sister Corita crossed the bridge and cut the ribbon to our new building! When asked what Sister Berta thought of the bridge, she responded, "it was my idea, you know." 

 

 

The mission of Operation Breakthrough, which was founded by the Sisters in 1971 is to provide a safe, loving, and educational environment for children in poverty and empower their families through advocacy, emergency aid and education. 

 

The opportunities ahead for Kansas City's children and families in the urban core is incredible. The top floor of the new building (the former Jones Store at 3036 Troost) has been transformed to MakerCity, building 21st Century Skills in our School-Age students! With this growth, we have a need for volunteers now more than ever - and what an exciting time to get involved it is! MakerCity volunteers are needed in different labs, from the Culinary Arts Lab to the Digital Media Lab and beyond! You don't need to be an expert to volunteer - learn alongside our students! 

 

MakerCity Volunteer opportunities include shifts both during the day and in the afternoon (3:30-5:30PM). There are many additional opportunities for volunteering with us as well! 

 

You will learn about the process of becoming a volunteer at Operation Breakthrough as well as information about our expansion! The best is yet to come.
