This Week:  Tom Shawver, "The Author's Challenge: Getting Published"

Novelists may spend months and months, often years, hunched over their computers writing what they hope will be the next
blockbuster on the New York Times Bestseller List, if not the next Great American Novel.  Well, when the writing is done, the challenges of getting published have just begun! Last year, Kansas City author Thomas Shawver -- better known to us as Tom and as the husband of Plazan Nancy Shawver -- became a published author when Random House released his first e-book, "The Dirty Book Murder," the first of a three-volume series. That was followed by "Left Turn at Paradise." Tom formerly owned and operated Bloomsday Books in Brookside, and -- little surprise here -- his books feature murder and mayhem in a used book store in Brookside!  (Described in one promotional piece as "the surprisingly lethal world of rare books...") Here's a chance to hear the inside story on how a new author can get his first book published.
